PURA trains journalists, editors on petroleum operations

The Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (PURA) organized a one-day training for journalists and editors from various media houses with the aim of enhancing their understanding of petroleum operations in the country.

The training was conducted on April 10, 2025 in Dar es Salaam and featured fifteen (15) editors and journalists from public and private media houses.

While officiating the training, PURA’s acting director general, Mr. Shigela Malosha said that journalists and editors play a vitally important role in informing and educating the public which is why the Authority made it a mission to capacitate them to increase their efficiency.

“Recognizing the role of journalists and editors, PURA has been providing training to this stakeholder group to broaden their understanding of issues related to petroleum exploration, development and production in the country” added Shigela.

In addition, Shigela stated that PURA has also been organizing field trips for journalists to visit areas where natural gas is produced and processed. These trips have been very instrumental in providing them with first-hand experience in petroleum operations.

He also hinted that PURA has been conducting such training regularly to provide room for many journalists and editors to benefit from the program.

“Most of the issues in petroleum operations are very technical and oftentimes covering news in simple terms regarding oil and gas is truly a challenge. Today’s training has afforded us a unique opportunity to understand oil and gas issues in depth” added Grace.

Mr. Idd Uwesu from Voice of America commended PURA for organizing the training because it has potentially added value to their career as journalists and editors and urged the Authority to organize more of such sessions.
