Cooperation between PURA and ALNAFT to strengthen operational performance

The Tanzania Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (PURA) met with the Algeria's National Agency for the Valorisation of Hydrocarbon Resources (ALNAFT) to discuss potential collaboration opportunities, including the exchange of expertise and capacity building in regulating oil and natural gas exploration and production.

The two met on September 7, 2025, in Algiers, Algeria, in a meeting attended by the President of ALNAFT, Mr. Samir Bekhti, the representative of the Director General of PURA, Mr. Shigela Malosha, and several leaders and experts from both sides.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Malosha explained that collaboration between PURA and ALNAFT is essential for the prosperity of upstream petroleum activities in Tanzania and Algeria as it will enable these institutions to increase the efficiency of regulatory and management activities in the exploration and production of oil and natural gas.

“By strengthening each other through capacity building and sharing experiences on how PURA and ALNAFT fulfill their responsibilities, it is clear that these partnerships will serve as a catalyst for both institutions to improve,” said Shigela.

For his part, the President of ALNAFT emphasized that the collaboration between the two institutions is important and will greatly benefit both parties, noting that PURA and ALNAFT share similar responsibilities despite operating in different countries.

Among the areas discussed for experience sharing and capacity building between PURA and ALNAFT are the regulation and management of oil and gas exploration and production, petroleum data management, local content and the development of relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines.
