Octant begins preliminary preparations for exploration well drilling in Tanga
The operator of the Tanga Block, Octant Energy Tanga Limited, met and held talks with the Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (PURA) to discuss the progress made toward drilling a petroleum exploration well in the Tanga Block.
In a meeting held on July 17, 2025, at PURA’s office in Dar es Salaam, Mr. Jeremy Martin, Regional Manager at Octant Energy Tanga Ltd, explained that, following promising results from a reprocessed 3D seismic interpretation, the company has already identified potential drilling locations.
“The completion of the data interpretation has enabled Octant to begin preliminary preparations for drilling, and we have already identified eight drillable locations” said Jeremy
He further noted that Octant is in the initial phase of evaluating available local goods and services in preparation for the upcoming exploration drilling project in the Block.
“By understanding the capabilities of local service providers, Octant will be better positioned to plan the project’s implementation and develop a realistic local content plan” Jeremy explained.
Speaking during the meeting, PURA’s Acting Director General, Mr. Simon Nkenyeli, commended Octant for its proactive approach in assessing local capacity before turning to foreign service providers.
For his part, PURA’s Head of Local Content and Stakeholder Engagement, Mr. Charles Nyangi, stated that Octant’s approach sets a laudable example.
“This is precisely what the 2015 Petroleum Act mandates - to prioritize local service providers in oil and gas projects. Congratulations on this forward-thinking approach; PURA stands ready to provide any necessary support and information.” added Nyangi.
