On December 2, 2025, the Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (PURA) hosted the 30th Executive Council Meeting of the East African Energy Regulators Association, commonly known as EREA EXCO.

The meeting, held in Arusha, Tanzania, brought together Heads of Energy Regulatory Authorities from across East Africa, including PURA, EWURA, and ZURA from Tanzania; EREA from Kenya; ERA and PAU from Uganda; and AREEN from Burundi.

Chaired by PURA, the current EXCO Chair, the meeting provided a platform for leaders to discuss key issues related to energy sector regulation in the East African region.

Deliberations focused on strengthening regulatory systems and sharing experiences aimed at enhancing the quality of services provided to regulated institutions across member countries.

In addition, the meeting served as a forum to review the implementation of EXCO directives issued during previous sessions, including updates on budget matters and the progress made in executing the 2025/26 financial year work plan.

Through such meetings, members reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation among energy regulators in East Africa, underscoring their shared dedication to ensuring that the region’s energy sector is managed effectively, transparently, and for the benefit of all member countries.
