PURA, ZPRA cooperation gets stronger

The cooperation between the Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (PURA) of Tanzania Mainland and the Zanzibar Petroleum Regulatory Authority (ZPRA) continues to strengthen, thanks to the concerted efforts made by the leadership of both institutions to implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) they entered in 2022.

This was evident during a meeting of the management teams of PURA and ZPRA held on September 24, 2024, in Dar es Salaam, aimed at receiving and reviewing the implementation report of their cooperation for the financial year 2023/24.

The meeting was chaired by PURA’s Director General, Eng. Charles Sangweni and attended by ZPRA’s Managing Director, Eng. Mohammed Slum Said, along with members of the management from both institutions and members of the Joint Technical Committee (JTC) established to facilitate the implementation of the MoU.

According to the implementation report presented by the JTC, in the year 2023/24, PURA and ZPRA collaborated in various areas including the review of model production-sharing agreement, the preparation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) guidelines, training on production-sharing agreement audit, and petroleum data management.

Other areas were the development of the licensing strategy, the launch of Zanzibar’s first licensing round, and the promotion of open blocks through various international conferences.
