PURA, ARH eye experience sharing regulation of oil, gas projects
The Tanzania Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (PURA) and the Algerian Petroleum Regulatory Authority (ARH) met to explore partnerships aimed at facilitating the exchange of expertise in regulating the technical aspects of oil and gas operations.
The two met on September 9, 2025, at the ARH offices in Algiers, Algeria. The meeting was attended by leaders and senior officials from both institutions, including Mr. Shigela Malosha, representative of the Director General of PURA, and Mr. Samir Houghlaouene, Acting President of ARH.
Among areas in which PURA and ARH aim to exchange experiences discussed in the meeting include the inspection of equipment used in oil and gas projects; and the preparation of regulations governing oil and gas operations.
At the meeting, Mr. Shigela emphasized the importance of exchanging experiences between these institutions, highlighting that this collaboration will help PURA and ARH improve the regulation of technical issues and ultimately enhance operational efficiency.
"Since both PURA and ARH regulate technical issues in oil and gas projects implemented by oil companies in our countries, it is clear that for our institutions to exchange experiences on how we carry out this role will enable us to improve efficiency and increase productivity in the sector," stated Shigela.
ARH Acting President Samir underscored the significance of experience sharing between PURA and ARH, highlighting its crucial role in fostering the growth and success of the oil and gas sector in Tanzania and Algeria.
He noted that meticulous management of field operations is fundamental to the effective execution of oil and gas projects.
“As regulators, exchanging experience in regulating technical matters is essential and will help us learn and implement best practices carried out by our authorities in this field. By doing so, the oil and gas projects being implemented will become sustainable,” added Samir.
