The Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (PURA) of Tanzania and the Energy and The Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (PURA) of Tanzania and the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) of Kenya conducted a two-day peer-to-peer learning meeting to share experience in petroleum exploration, development, and production.

The meeting, conducted on 12 and 13 May 2025, in Dar es Salaam, involved some management and staff members from both sides.

While officiating the meeting, the Director General of PURA, Eng. Charles Sangweni said experience sharing through peer-to-peer learning is crucial for the development of the petroleum industry in both countries and the East African Community at large.

“This meeting will enable, among other things, improvement of the regulatory efficiency of our institutions in regulating petroleum operations and strengthen collaboration between us,” added Sangweni.

Through such a meeting, PURA and EPRA shared experience in various areas, including frameworks governing the petroleum sector in both countries (policy, legal, regulatory, and institutional), petroleum data management, and audit of production sharing agreements.

Other areas were the issuance and management of exploration and development licences, licensing of petroleum exploration blocks, and local content.
