PURA fosters linkages between petroleum and education sectors
The Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (PURA) has continued to implement various programs and initiatives to link the petroleum sector with the education sector in the country.
Such programs include providing education stakeholders with an opportunity to visit natural gas production and processing facilities in regions where natural gas is produced to enhance their understanding of this matter.
Speaking about it, on 14th March 2025, PURA facilitated stakeholders from higher learning, tertiary and vocational education institutions to visit natural gas production and processing facilities in Mtwara Region.
The visit also included stakeholders from education regulatory bodies including the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) and the National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET).
During the visit, the stakeholders toured natural gas production and processing facilities at Mnazi Bay operated by Maurel et Prom and natural gas processing facilities at Madimba operated by GASCO, TPDC’s subsidiary company.
They also visited the Mtwara (K) Teachers’ College to appreciate the transformation brought about by the use of natural gas for cooking instead of firewood, an act that enabled the College to save significantly and improve cooking conditions..
During the visit, Dr. Malehe Cosmas Setta from TCU and Dkt. Adela Syikilili from the University of Dar es Salaam said that the visit, apart from enhancing their understanding of oil and gas processes, has enabled them to get a clearer picture of the kinds of skills required in the industry, something which will be of vital importance during preparations of curriculums.
On his part, the representative from PURA Mr. Musa Ryoba said the visit is a continuation of PURA’s effort in ensuring that the oil and gas sector in the country links with other sectors of the economy. By so doing, he said, the oil and gas sector will bring about the desired impact on the country’s economy.
